Kufic Calligraphy

The Kufic script or Kufic script is a calligraphy of Arabic . It is a somewhat angular, heavy and formal script. The script was named after the city of Kufa in the south of present-day Iraq .

It is one of the most important styles of calligraphy in Islam. The script is often used to decorate architecture. To an outsider, some variants of the script are not always recognizable as script.

The first copies of the Quran were written in Kufic.

The script has been used since 1991, among other things, in the flag of Iraq .
